Who the Earthway 2050P Is For
The 2050P solves one specific problem: refilling. If your property is large enough that a 40 or 50 pound spreader runs out halfway through, you either stop to refill or accept inconsistent coverage where application resumes. The 2050P’s 80 pound hopper covers 20,000 square feet of fertilizer in a single fill. For properties between half an acre and one acre, that means one fill, one walk, done.
This spreader also fits small commercial operators who manage a handful of properties and want a single unit that handles everything without carrying a trailer full of equipment. It bridges the gap between residential and full commercial.
Build Quality
The frame is heavy gauge steel with a powder coated finish. It is sturdier than the 2600A Plus frame but not stainless steel like the 2150. The hopper is the same rustproof poly material used across the Earthway lineup, just scaled up to 80 pounds. The 13 inch pneumatic tires match the 2150’s spec, providing grip on soft and uneven terrain without creating ruts.
The EV-N-SPRED system and Flex-Select tray are the same across all Earthway broadcast models. The 2050P uses the Standard-Output red tray by default. The larger hopper opening means more product flows to the impeller per revolution, so settings may run slightly lower than the same product on a 2150 or 2600A Plus. Calibrate independently rather than copying settings between models.
Weight and Maneuverability
This is the trade off. An 80 pound hopper full of fertilizer plus the spreader frame puts you at 100 or more pounds of total push weight. On flat ground, the pneumatic tires roll easily. On slopes, hills, and soft terrain, the weight becomes a workout. The wider hopper also makes the 2050P less nimble around tight corners, narrow gates, and fence openings.
If your property is relatively flat and open, the weight is manageable and the reduced refill stops save time. If your property has significant slopes, narrow access points, or tight landscaping, the 2600A Plus or 2150 with their smaller footprints are more practical despite needing a mid-job refill.
Value Proposition
At approximately $204, the 2050P is priced almost identically to the 2600A Plus despite having twice the hopper capacity and pneumatic tires. This makes it arguably the best value in the Earthway lineup for buyers with large, flat properties. The price is well below the 2150’s $330, and the build quality is close enough for residential and light commercial duty.
Limitations
The 2050P is heavy and wide. Garages with tight storage may struggle to accommodate it. The spreader does not fold or collapse for storage. The heavy gauge steel frame, while durable, is not stainless, so neglecting post-use cleaning will lead to corrosion over time. The fixed handle height issue affects tall users the same way as the 2600A Plus.
Verdict
The 2050P is the right Earthway for properties over half an acre with flat to moderate terrain. Its 80 pound hopper eliminates the refill hassle that plagues smaller spreaders on big lawns. For properties under half an acre or with steep slopes, the lighter 2600A Plus or more rugged 2150 is a better fit.
