Your Green Thumb: How to Get More Involved in Your Yard

Spring has sprung and it’s time to flex your green thumb. We are encouraging you to step foot into your yard and make an impact on those weeds (we all have them, it’s okay). There are many ways to get started. Below, are our favorite ways to get going in the yard.

Clean Your Yard

First and foremost, cleaning your lawn will not only make the soil richer for future planting, but it will create a more workable yard. Picking up twigs, raking up the leaves and watering the lawn can be very beneficial for new growth. Potential growth for previous plants is important too, so trimming bushes, shrubs, and trees may help these plants flourish better this spring.

Get the kids involved

If you need a helping hand, you may want to grab the kids for some spring activities in the garden. There are plenty of little tasks to incorporate your kids into the garden process. Letting the children pick out their choice of flowers, then teaching them about the basics of watering, the soil, and the sun. An example of a fun and quick activity for the kids could be upcycling plastic bottles and making friendly faced planters. Check out the blog below for more ideas!

No Yard, No Problem

No yard to get your green thumb started? That’s okay. If you have a deck or porch this is a great place to either buy a planter or make one. Most planters are the perfect touch of greenery to liven up your patio. When picking out the plants you want, there are many you (almost) won’t be able to kill.

Edible Garden

You’re not a big plant or flower person? That’s okay because produce can also be an option to get involved in your yard. Besides, we all know garden-fresh produce is better tasting. If planting produce scares you, maybe decide to plant some herbs. While you get going in your lawn you will also be saving money on your monthly grocery bill. Win-win for all.

Accessorize Your Yard

This is a great choice if gardening is not your thing. Placing multiple accessories in your yard can also bring your yard some curb appeal. From bird feeders to hanging lights, and even some chimes, your yard can be upgraded in seconds.
