Sprinkler Winterization FAQ
When should I winterize my sprinklers in Omaha?
Before the first hard freeze, when temperatures drop to 28°F or colder (the National Weather Service definition). Water left in the lines can freeze and crack pipes, heads and valves. SunCo schedules winterizations until the first hard freeze, so request yours as soon as you can.
How much does residential sprinkler winterization cost?
SunCo’s sprinkler winterizations start at $95.
What does SunCo’s sprinkler winterization include?
We shut off the water to your sprinkler system, set your controller for winter without erasing its program, clear every zone with compressed air at a safe pressure for your pipes, open any low-point drains and wrap exposed pipes and valves with foam insulation. See the full list of steps.
Is it too late to winterize my sprinklers?
Not if the hard freeze hasn’t arrived yet. If your system hasn’t been winterized, request it today and we’ll get you on the schedule while we’re still running routes.
Do I need to drain my backflow preventer?
You’ll need to drain your backflow preventer yourself. SunCo’s winterization doesn’t include it, and our winterization promise doesn’t cover backflow preventers, so please make sure yours is drained before your service or the first freeze, whichever comes first.
Do you turn sprinklers back on in the spring?
Yes. SunCo also does spring sprinkler activation.
Which areas do you serve?
Omaha, Bellevue, Papillion, La Vista, Elkhorn, Millard, Gretna, Bennington, Ralston, Council Bluffs, Blair, Valley and Waterloo.
