National Great Outdoors Month: Places to go in NE this summer

Nebraska is home to beautiful nature and remarkable history. Whether you are an avid hiker or a casual tourist, Nebraska’s cities and regions offer a vast variety of attractions, landmarks, and experiences worthy of gracing your Instagram feed or bragging about to your co-workers.

There’s no doubting that Omaha is a leading city in the Midwest. Explore and learn about the town of Omaha through an app-led scavenger hunt across the city. Choose your category and you’re off! Get your steps in, test your knowledge, and document your adventure with Let’s Roam Omaha scavenger hunts. You will be led to some of the city’s most notable hot spots, including Joslyn Art Museum, Old Market, and Heartland of America Park.

Take the hunt statewide with the Nebraska Passport. Discover Nebraska’s hidden gems, collect Passport stamps, and earn prizes along the way. With over 50 stops, you’ll be sure to hit a variety of attractions, museums, shops, eateries, and photo opportunities.

Escape the city lights and explore the moonscape of Toadstool Geological Park. Hike into the badlands of Harrison, NE and experience rock formations as if they were crafted on the moon. Looking to spend more time away from the city? Book a campsite and spend nights gazing at the stars.

Opt for a cooler experience by hitting the water. Pull an RV right up to the water and camp out at Lake McConaughy. Fish, bird watch, build sandcastles, sunbathe, swim, water ski — whatever floats your boat (pun intended) — Lake McConaughy has it all.

And Fort Robinson State Park has even more! Step back in time and experience the world as it was during the Old West days. This historic outpost served from the days of the American Indian War until after World War II. Visitors can stay where blue-coated cavalrymen once bunked. Ride a horse through the land where many explorers set foot or take a modern route and tour the land by off-roading in a Jeep. Fort Robinson also offers your typical outdoor activities, including hunting, swimming, hiking, biking, and more.

These hot spots only scratch the surface of what Nebraska brings to the table. However you choose to celebrate National Great Outdoors Month, just get outside.
